Overview
Mobile Computer Terminal (MCT) is a Mobile Application and Web Application for public safety, it allows law enforcement patrol officers run vehicles and people background checks, respond to emergency call, messages, FBI queries, communicate with other patrols and dispatch to emergencies locations. This product is highly regarded in the industry and used by thousands of law enforcement personnel across the country. It currently used by over 1,150 U.S. police agencies in 28 states. Available on tablets and laptops in the Police Officers patrol cars.
Project goals
The client wants a product that will allow access to critical secure data and communication
The system needs to be highly secure and reliable
The product needs to be customizable with new features
The product needs to be able to communicate with similar products provided by other vendors
It needs to be easy to learn with minimal training and effort by the users
My Role
I was the designer on the team, focusing on the ideation, prototyping and high-fidelity design of the product. In this role, I was responsible for:
Collaborate with product management, development and quality assurance team
Identify product requirements (Business and user needs)
Sketching, task flow, wireframing, prototyping
Visual design, product branding and custom iconography
Delivery graphic assets to development teams, iterate, validate
The Challenge
Trying to incorporate standard features into the product that will be used by all the agencies. The client needed a product that will allow the product to communicate with other agencies currently using similar product from other vendors. The system needs to be able to be scaled up with new features and requirements based on agencies needs.
