Overview

Computer-aided dispatch (CAD) 911 it is used by dispatchers and call taker personnel to dispatch, communicate and access data. The system is designed for handling large call volumes, even during the toughest disasters and most complex incidents. CAD offers the latest innovative capabilities, including technology that maximizes interoperability between departments for smarter, more coordinated response, allowing to easily send the right units to the right location. Advanced GIS-centric mapping gives essential location information. It is currently being used by over 7500 U.S. police agencies customers in 42 states. 3 in 4 citizens across north America rely on this product for safety. Available on desktops in 911 call centers.

Project goals

  • Need to coordinate single-agency or multi-agency response, with faster, more accurate dispatch

  • The product need to be highly reliable, fast and accurate

  • The system needs to be scalable and customizable based on agency specify needs

  • The product needs to be easy to use, with minimal training and effort from the users

My Role

I was the UI Designer as part of a large design team. I collaborated in wireframing, prototyping and high-fidelity screens design of the product. In this role, I was responsible for:

  • Collaborate with the product owner, UX designer, development, QA and the design team

  • User shadowing

  • Wireframing, prototyping and high-fidelity design

  • Delivery graphic assets to development teams, iterate, validate

The Challenge

Call Centers around the country needed a mission critical system, highly reliable, efficient and fast. It needs to coordinate communication and efforts between departments, agencies, disciplines and jurisdictions. When major events and disasters strike the stakes get even higher. Every second counts and you have to make sure everyone at the scene gets the right help right where it’s needed.
