Overview
Field Training Officers (FTO) enable agencies to easily duplicate an existing paper-based evaluation method or create a totally new system to fit user’s needs, using a web-based application. It is used by the law enforcement personnel supervisors for recruits training and scheduling. It currently used by over 435 U.S. police agencies in 22 states. Available for tablets and laptops.
Project goals
Create a brand-new digital product solution, moving away from the current paper based option
The system needs to be scalable and customizable based on agency specify needs
The product needs to be easy to use, with minimal training and effort from the users
My Role
I was the lone designer on the team, wireframing and prototyping high-fidelity screens design of the product. In this role, I was responsible for:
Collaborate with product owner, development and quality assurance team
Identify product requirements, user needs
Sketching, task flow, wireframing, prototyping
Visual design, product branding and custom iconography
Delivery graphic assets to development teams, iterate, validate
The Challenge
Police department supervisors relayed on excel documents or paper to schedule training for new recruits, a brand-new product needed to be created to modernize this activity. The new product need to conform to the various requirements each agency have in performing their activities.
